Tensions Rise Over Gaza Strikes as Rafah Crossing Set to Reopen

The Gaza health ministry, run by Hamas authorities, claims that Israeli military actions have resulted in the deaths of at least 509 people since the truce began. These figures could not be independently confirmed due to tight media restrictions and limited on-ground access for journalists in Gaza.

Egypt, which has played a central role in mediating between Israel and Hamas, criticised what it called Israel’s repeated breaches of the ceasefire and urged all sides to show maximum restraint. The appeal came just before the planned reopening of the Rafah border crossing on Sunday.

  1. According to Israeli officials, the reopening of Rafah will permit only restricted movement of people. The move is considered an important step in implementing the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal.
