Tokayev’s Pakistan Visit Signals Push for Stronger Kazakhstan Pakistan Partnership

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan is set to pay a two-day official visit to Pakistan on February 3–4, following an invitation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced. He will be joined by a senior delegation that includes cabinet members and other high-ranking officials.

During his stay, President Tokayev is scheduled to meet Pakistan’s president, hold formal discussions with the prime minister, and speak at the Pakistan–Kazakhstan Business Forum. These engagements are aimed at deepening cooperation and exploring new economic opportunities between the two nations.

Pakistan and Kazakhstan enjoy cordial diplomatic ties, and Kazakhstan is currently Pakistan’s leading export destination in Central Asia. Owing to its strategic location, Kazakhstan provides Pakistan with a gateway to markets in Central Asia, Russia, and Eastern Europe. It is also the largest economy in Central Asia in terms of territory and natural resources.

According to Pakistan’s foreign minister, the visit offers both countries a timely chance to thoroughly assess their bilateral relationship. Talks are expected to cover trade expansion, logistics, regional connectivity, cultural exchanges, and coordination in regional and global forums.

Officials from both sides view the trip as mutually beneficial. For Pakistan, stronger ties with Kazakhstan support its ambition to serve as a transit hub linking Central and South Asia. For Kazakhstan, closer cooperation with Pakistan could help broaden its trade partnerships at a time of economic uncertainty in Eurasia following the Russia–Ukraine conflict.

The upcoming visit builds on recent progress in relations, including an Action Plan of Cooperation signed in September to enhance bilateral collaboration. Overall, the trip highlights a shared intention to turn historical and cultural links into practical cooperation and to promote stability and development in the region.
