Dubai – May 3, 2026
The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) organized the “Virtual International Workers’ Day” event, broadcast live from its headquarters, as part of its ongoing efforts to reach a wide segment of the workforce across the Emirate of Dubai and enhance communication channels through innovative approaches.
The event witnessed the participation of 41,272 workers, including 5,272 workers who engaged through the “Blue Connect” application, in an experience that combined on-ground presence with digital interaction.
The event included a series of competitions and raffles featuring more than 100 diverse prizes, including smartphones and grand prizes. This was made possible through the principal support of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du), in collaboration with several supporting entities, reflecting a unified effort to enhance the quality of life of the workforce.
In parallel with the digital broadcast, on-ground activities were organized across 34 labor accommodations in Al Quoz and Jebel Ali, hosting more than 36,000 workers, where the event was streamed live within these locations. This was complemented by field visits to honor workers and highlight their vital role in the development journey.
The initiative also featured messages of appreciation and gratitude from workers’ families, in a human-centered gesture that reflected strong social bonds and underscored the worker’s role as a key pillar of the community.
In this context, Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor, Deputy Director General of GDRFA Dubai and Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs in Dubai, affirmed that this initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to a comprehensive human-centered approach that places people at the heart of its priorities. He noted that the continued adoption of digital solutions demonstrates a forward-looking vision that enhances quality of life and supports a balanced and sustainable work environment
For his part, Colonel Omar Matar Al Mazina, Assistant Director General of the Labour Relations Regulation Sector, stated that the event represents an advanced model for engaging with workers by integrating field presence with digital broadcasting, ensuring that messages and initiatives reach the widest possible audience. He added that recognising workers and involving them in interactive activities enhances their sense of appreciation and belonging, and contributes to fostering a positive work environment based on mutual respect and active partnership.
